Regional literature

Every year, the Wustrow Tourism Information Centre celebrates Käthe Miethe Days in honour of the author‘s birthday (11.3.1893) and the anniversary of her death (12.3.1961).  Käthe Miethe lived on Fischland from 1939 until her death and is one of the regions best-known authors. Käthe Miethe was a passionate observer who carefully researched Fischland‘s culture and traditions. Aside from her publications for children and young adults, Miethe‘s works focus on the Fischland peninsula and the German Baltic Sea coast.

A discussion group has been meeting regularly to debate and learn about Fischland regional literature since 2015. In an informal setting, the group organises author readings, discusses new publications, exchanges views on Fischland history and explores long-forgotten local authors. The group has also rediscovered newspaper articles written by Käthe Miethes between 1920 and 1960. The Seniorenbeirat Wustrow has made these historic contributions available to a wider audience in a series of monthly publications.
